Turning forty comes with certain obligations. Forty is not just a nice round
number; it is also a number that invites reflection on your achievements and
your future direction. At least, that’s how we feel here at Skagerak where we
turn forty this year – without any 40-years crisis. We are happy and proud to
be where we are today, and we believe we have spent the time well, building
know-how, experience, and good relations; some of the most important things
for any furniture manufacturer.
This is the heart and cornerstone of any good business, and to us it means that
we are able to make furniture and home accessories of the best quality. We call it
forty years of street credit, because we are the same as we have always been, and
we still make the products we have always done – good, timeless, and functional
furniture, made from the best materials available. Our planet is also our
responsibility, and so, we care a lot about the history of the wood; issues such
as sustainable forestry, biodiversity, the working conditions of forest workers, and
legal logging.
We also celebrate our 40th anniversary with an impressive array of new
collaborations with international as well as Danish designers, this year
including TAF Architects from Stockholm, Maximilian Schmahl from Berlin
and the new Copenhagen based design duo Halstrøm-Odgaard, creators of
the Vivlio shelving system. Together, we develop the classics of tomorrow,
because we prefer to steer clear of passing fads, and steadily expand our
collection with new design that appeals across generations. We have also
ventured into new materials this year with the outdoor chair Mira in
powder-coated steel, designed by Mia Lagerman; we predict Mira will have
a promising life as a classic of the future.
And so, we will continue using our experience and insight into design produced
with care and craftsmanship, to make more beautiful and functional furniture in
a language of design that everybody understands. Far into the future. We look
forward to the next forty years.
Sincerely,
Vibeke and Jesper Panduro
